Shaping Up

News

Our plan has the official `Edinburgh Review Podcast` launching with a weekly show; the first one recorded on the 9th.of September. (Stay tuned to this station)
We got into the habit of recording every week for the Fringe Podcast. `Lets keep going` said Gaye. I`m not a man to refuse a lady her desires and this infant blog/podcast is the result.
After negotiating with Ewan we can also reveal the `Edinburgh Review` will be joining `The Podcast Network` very soon.

Fireworks

This is the last week of the festival season culminating this weekend with the fireworks display from Edinburgh Castle on Sunday 3rd.Sept. at 9pm. accompanied by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
Over 250,000 watch the fireworks from vantage points all over the city. They party on roofs and in the open and listen in to the live music from the castle by radio.
Beware the HUGE traffic jam after 10pm. as the revellers return home.

There`s also a wee trendy music (please dont call it a festival) event in the West End of Glasgow this weekend. Also due in Glasgow soon is the`Merchant City Festival`.

Leith

The Mela Festival runs for two days in Pilrig Park this Saturday 2nd. and Sunday 3rd. It features entertainment and culture from `South Asia` and celebrates the all cultures of ethnic Scotland. This year I`ll be looking for a big Polish section as they now represent the largest ethnic community in Leith.

We all have a wee rest for a couple of weeks and then its `Freshers Week`. Yes. the students will be back. Lucky for us in Leith we are a bit away from most university campuses (campi?) so trendy in Leith means more yuppy than puppy. Don`t get me wrong. I still enjoy a good party and nothing I do now could destroy my hedonistic reputation. But at 60 I am slowing up and now have to maintain a `grumpy` image.

The stylish `Shore Area` here in Leith has just been expanded to include the `Alexandra Dock` where a former Pullman railway car is to become another bistro; and just opened is a running track close to the Ocean Terminal mall. Sport facilities are long overdue in a Leith with 50 trendy bars and restaurants. Just a minute; we do have Leith Links, the home of Leith Rules golf, Leith Academy FC and Edinburgh Beige Cricket; we also have a `Next Generation` gym, `Alien Rock` an indoor climbing wall and a pair of swimming pools.(one for us grumpies)
